When to submit a visa application?
A visa application can be submitted up to 6 months before departure, and must be submitted at least 15 calendar days before the intended visit.
For example, for a visit to Belgium from 1 September 2020 onwards, the application can be submitted between 1 March 2020 and 17 August 2020.
The duration of treatment of your visa depends on the quality of the file. The Visa section will contact you as soon as your application has been processed.
How to submit a visa application?
First of all, you need to complete the online visa application form on VisaOnWeb
The visa applicant must then make an appointment via the online appointment system. All visa applicants must come to the embassy in person, accompanied by the documents below.
All documents must be submitted in original form (no photocopies needed). The Visa section reserves the right to request additional documents.
Which documents must be submitted?
General requirements
1. A passport that is at most 10 years old and valid for the period of the intended trip to Belgium + 3 months; Please ensure that your passport still has at least 2 blank pages.
2. A printed version of the application form, fully completed in French, Dutch or English, personally signed.
3. A recent color photo.
4. Copy (front and back) of the Alien Registration Card (ARC), with a validity of at least 3 months after the expiry date of the visa.
5. Visa fee, to be paid by card only at the Embassy of Belgium.
- Adults and children from the age of 12 years: KRW 135,000
- Children between 6 and 12 years old: KRW 67,500
- Children under 6: free of charge
- Citizens of Armenia and Azerbaijan: KRW 52,500
- Holders of a diplomatic or service passport: free of charge
- Family members of EU / EEA nationals: free of charge
- Pupils, students and accompanying teachers during a school trip: free of charge
- Researchers traveling to conduct scientific research: free of charge
- Representatives (-25 years) of NGOs attending an organized event: free of charge
6. Flight reservation (return ticket reservation) and travel plan.
7. Proof of return to Korea after the trip, by presenting one of the following documents:
- a recent statement from the employer (not older than one month);
- an employment contract or other information that demonstrates that you are employed;
- a document proving that you are following education or training in Korea
- proof of real estate in Korea
8. Proof of accommodation for the entire duration of the intended stay, by presenting one of the documents below:
- hotel reservation;
- travel package;
- proof of participation to a group travel;
- a letter or e-mail confirming that you will be staying with the host (this document can be requested in notarial form);
- proof of sponsorship and / or private accommodation
- proof of real estate ownership
9. Proof of solvency; by submitting the documents below:
- bank statements (from the last 3 months)
- international credit card or travelers checks (optional)
10. Proof of your subscription to a medical travel insurance that covers your entire stay. The cover must apply to medical expenses, repatriation and the costs resulting from death, and must be at least 30,000 euros.
11. For minors (under 18 years of age) traveling alone or accompanied by only by one of their parents:
- birth certificate of the minor;
- an identity document with the signature of the parents (1 document for each parent);
- a statement of consent from both parents stating that the minor can travel;
- a statement by the school of the minor who agrees to his / her absence for trips outside the general school holidays.
Additional documents to be submitted, depending on the purpose of the visit:
Individual tourism
- Proof of solvency:
- For employees: a certificate of employment showing that you actually work for this organization (a statement of the salary and the end date of the contract) and a holiday certificate from the employer.
- For self-employed persons: business license and tax return forms.
Visit to family / friends
- Invitation letter from the inviting person stating who is invited, the relationship with the person invited, as well as the full address of the stay (this document can be requested in notarial form).
- Proof of solvency:
- For employees: a certificate of employment showing that you actually work for this organization (a statement of the salary and the end date of the contract) and a holiday certificate from the employer.
- For self-employed persons: business license and tax return forms.
Business visit
- Proof of solvency of the applicant:
- Proof of the solvency of the employing company, if the company pays the costs for travel and living
- Proof of the applicant's personal solvency, in case the costs of travel and living are covered personally.
- Proof of solvency for employees:
- a sealed copy of the business licence of the company
- a letter from the employer on paper with hosting company or organizer letter head with stamp, signature, date and clearly mentioning:
- address, telephone adn fax numbers of the company
- the name and position in the company of the countersigning officer
- the name of the applicant, position, salary and years of service
- approval for leave or absence
- Financial and commercial information about the company in Korea and original letter from your employer:
- the charter and registration certificate
- solvency documents from the bank
- on offical company paper, with stamp and signature, mentioning:
- full address and contact persons of the company
- the name and contact persons of the company
- the name and position of the countersigning officer
- name, position, salary and years of employment
- the purpose of the visit
- confirmation of position after the return
- the person or the entity who will bear the applicant's travel and living costs in and to Belgium
- Original invitation letter from the organizer of the event or training; on official company paper with stamp and signature, mentioning:
- the full address and contacts of the company
- the name and position of the countersigning officer
- purpose and duration of the visit
- detailed program
- the person or the entity who will bear the applicant's travel and living costs
- whether the sponsor gives financial guaranty for the applicant's return to Korea
- proof of registration from a Chamber of Commerce, if applicable.
Study / conference / sports / cultural events
Documents that prove your visit relating to study / conference / sports / cultural events, for example:
- An invitation letter from the organizer on official paper stating:
- purpose and duration of the stay
- detailed program and itinerary
- an indication of the costs of the study/sport/event and entity that will pay for them
- indication of lodging during the period of the intended stay
Or
- if attending a seminar/conference: invitation/ticket for confress, expo, conference, seminar, etc.
- if attending a culture/sport event: confirmation about cultural/sport activities in Belgium
- if attending for studies: acceptance letter from the school, student cards or certificates concerning the courses to be attended
- if for scientific research: hosting agreement with a research institution
Medical treatment
- A medical certificate issued by a doctor and / or a medical institution in Korea or in Belgium confirming that specific medical treatment is required in Belgium;
- Written confirmation of an appointment at a health / medical facility
- Proof that the costs of medical treatment can be covered and / or proof of advance payment of these costs
Are you a family member of an EU / EEA national?
Family members of EU / EEA nationals can get a short stay visa free of charge if they meet the following conditions:
- Demonstrate your family relationship with the EU / EEA national:
- Be married or have a registered partnership with an EU / EEA national
- Children of an EU / EEA national under the age of 21 or older but still dependent on their parents
- Dependent parents or other family members of an EU / EEA national
- Demonstrate that you will be accompanying the EU / EEA citizen or joining the EU / EEA citizen
- You have a valid passport (on the day you enter the Schengen area)
